Hello! Sara here with Materia Medica! Today, I want to welcome you into my treatment room and share more about this new service I’ve been posting about called Collagen Induction Therapy or more commonly known as micro needling.
Let’s begin with what it is.
Simply put, it is a handheld device that delivers controlled injury to the skin using several small needles. During use, these needles allow for greater penetration of targeted skin care via the microchannels they create. It stimulates our natural repair response, which includes collagen and elastin production with minimal downtime. The skin conditions commonly targeted are acne scarring, enlarged pores, pigmentation (due to sun damage and/or hormonal imbalances), fine lines, deep wrinkles, loose and dehydrated skin.
I am so excited to be able to offer this service to you! As a holistic esthetician, I not only use herb-based skin care but I make sure to consider your skin and overall health before encouraging this type of treatment. Rejuvenating our skin isn’t something, that I believe, can be achieved from solely using anti-aging creams, injections, lasers, resurfacing peels and so on. Reviving our skin from mistreatment, whether it was overall neglect, sun exposure, poor diet, too much alcohol, acne etc., healing truly takes place from the inside out. Following all of my treatments, I offer post care dietary recommendations, you are given a week worth of hydrating and nourishing topical products, as well as a restorative herbal infusion to drink on day 2 and 3 of healing. All of these components working together to support your body and its natural healing process.
Here are a few common questions that I get asked about this service.
Will my skin be red?
Yes, there is an initial redness to the skin during and after the treatment, resembling a slight sunburn. This typically lasts only 24-48 hours with slight skin sensitivity due to our body’s natural histamine response.
How long is recovery?
I encourage 4–6-week total healing time in between treatments. The recovery time per treatment averages 7 days to allow complete wound healing, which can be broken down into 3 phases; Inflammatory, Proliferation, and Remodeling.
The inflammatory phase is where bacteria is killed, white blood cells remove debris, blood flow is increased.
Proliferation takes place 48-72 hours after the treatment where collagen production is being established and new blood vessels begin forming.
Lastly, the remodeling phase actively repairs tissue and type 1 & 3 collagen are formed to provide increased tissue strength.
Thank you so much for watching! Contact us or book online if you are interested in coming to see me for a consultation or want to schedule an appointment.
