Frequently Asked Questions
What is an herbal blending bar?
We use this term herbal blending bar to express the creativeness, beauty, and joy that we have wildcrafting custom beauty materials, clinical herbal supplements and toxin free household products for you and your family. The blending bar is the heart of our business/spa and, similar to our homes, that is the kitchen! We store, dry and display our home grown, locally harvested or wild foraged plants to be used later in our blends.
What does Materia Medica mean?
The dictionary definition of materia medica is “the study of the origin and properties of remedial substances used in medicine.” In the herbal communities, it is mostly referenced as a plant journal or diary that is used to study and monograph plants. We both have a different way of reflecting on why the name was chosen for our business, so next time you visit please ask us!
Are you a traditional spa?
We are traditional in the aspect that we study, encourage a nd use herb s for beauty, wellness and vitality like many of our descendants and ancestors have done all around the world. We are learning and growing from the practices handed down to us through the study of plants, the body, mind, spirit and each other.
Our spa offerings have a foundation in modern skincare with therapies that you may have had experience with. What makes us different, or non-conventional, is adding the seasonal elements of nature to everything that we do. Caring for your skin, body and mind does not always mean grabbing products off a shelf but finding the root cause, nourishing yourself with fresh food, having people who will listen, people who will hear you and guide you to see your unique path to wellness and beauty.
What is an apothecary?
Apothecaries were the original plant pharmacies used before scientific advancements began isolating plant compounds to create the tablets, that we think of as ‘medicine’ today. We would like you to have the image of an herbal apothecary as your (our our) kitchen. A place of nourishment and connection using fresh foods, laughter, culinary and medicinal herbs, sunlight, an apron and a sink full of messy dishes!
What is your return policy?
Our goal is to get things right the first time but if we have failed to do so, we kindly ask that you come back within 30 days to let us make a correction. If a product has been damaged or the packaging is malfunctioning, we will replace the item as soon as possible. Eminence Organic Skincare, Idun Minerals and Beauty By Earth
are equal exchange only, no returns.
What do you mean by appointment only?
We both strive to find balance for each person or task that needs our full attention. In our efforts to do so, scheduling an appointment online or reaching out to us via your preferred source (texting, call, email, social media, etc.) helps us manage our time and give you our full attention. Of course, we love the occasional drop-in, just know that we may be in a service and will be unable to greet you.
Can you use my card information that is on file for payment?
Online booking asks for your debit or credit card information to reserve your appointment time and holds that information to only be used when enforcing our cancellation policy. We do not have access to your card information for in store purchases or for invoice payments.
What is your appointment cancellation policy?
We understand that things can happen quickly, causing you to not make an appointment. We ask, if you are able, to give us at least a 6-hour notice. If you can’t notify us of your cancellation and do not show up for your scheduled appointment time, we reserve the right to charge you 50% of your service total. To avoid this charge please call, text, email to reschedule or notify us of any emergencies.
Do you offer massage therapy?
Currently we do not offer massage therapy services. If you are looking for a recommendation, please reach out to us via email, text or call so we can understand your concerns and guide you to the therapists we know in the area!
